Biosphere in The Bay Creative Workshops – Sara Truckel

The Creative workshops were a collaboration between Mark Cox from Equals IW and Sara Truckel as part of the Biosphere in the Bay project in 2023. With Sara participants were able to creatively connect on the walk lead by Mark. The sounds, sights, colours and smells were captured through pencil art before heading onto Yaverland Beach to have the opportunity to be creative by using paints and cyanotype alongside natural materials collected on the walk.

40 participants joined the walks & creative practice over two days. Almost all particpiants were non-creatives from the Equals IW group.

Some quotes from visitors to the workshops:

A Place of Safety – Kathy Williams

Place of Safety is a painted installation that explores feelings of safety, shelter and belonging. Situated at La Falaise Shelter in Ventnor, the work has been co-created by the ideas of local communities and culminates in a display of installed painted abstract shapes and lights which invite visitors to walk around, sit inside and take photographs of what they see.

Some quotes from visitors to the workshops:
(The project) became a place of safety where we are safe to be ourselves, to create and to flourish

(KW POS project) underscored the importance of communal spaces that foster creativity, reflection, and resilience.

Just creating was magic. I felt alive and connected to everyone else in the workshop

– Kathy Williams

At the heart of the work made by Kathy Williams is her preoccupation with time, of temporary installations, and of the process of work that captures moments and ever changing context. Since a diagnosis of ADHD only 2 years ago, Kathy seeks to research how she can present the realities of how she (and others) process information and manage ideas. She makes videos overlapped with thought and noise and notices how when she reads she hears thoughts in her head acting as an unlinked monologue.
Kathy seeks to share her experiences to help others navigate similar challenges.
